What does a planet in Retrograde mean?
Mercury and Venus, being within Earth’s orbit around the Sun, move in the same direction as all the other planets. However, they occasionally create an optical illusion where they seem to travel backward during their orbit to position themselves between Earth and the Sun…and is known as retrograde. This is merely an illusion caused by the speed difference in their orbits. Mercury travels faster than Earth around the Sun, so when Earth is closest to Mercury, it seems as though Mercury is moving in reverse. This usually happens about three times a year.
